Gergő Varga

Gergő joined SESCARNIVORE as a PhD student with a background in ecology. He investigates the social-ecological dimensions of human-bear coexistence in human-modified landscapes, seeking to understand how ecological and social systems interact to shape patterns of coexistence. Within the SESCARNIVORE project, his work encompasses camera trap monitoring to assess bear habitat use and movement patterns, participatory systems mapping workshops that engage local communities in knowledge co-production, and the integration of ecological and social data to identify governance and spatial leverage points for fostering coexistence. Gergő collaborates with local actors to co-develop a vision for bear-friendly and human-safe landscapes, contributing to both theoretical advancements and applied solutions in coexistence science.
